What is Email Warmup?

What is Email Warmup?

When setting up new email accounts for your Sparkbase campaigns, it's crucial to properly "warm up" these accounts before using them at full capacity. Here's everything you need to know about email warmup and why it matters.

Why Do You Need Email Warmup?

At Sparkbase, we recommend setting up new email accounts using a new alternative domain (similar to your primary one) for your Sparkbase (Cara) campaigns. However, these new accounts can't be used at full capacity right away—they first need to be "warmed up." This involves gradually simulating regular human email activity to build trust with email providers and ensure optimal deliverability.

What is Email Warmup?

Email warmup is the process of gradually increasing the number of emails sent from a new email account over time. By doing so, it helps establish a positive sender reputation with Internet Service Providers (ISPs). This improves email deliverability and minimizes the risk of your messages being marked as spam.

How to Warm Up Your Email Addresses

While Sparkbase is working on integrating email warmup directly into the platform, we currently offer two options:

  • We handle the warmup for you (using a trusted third party)
  • We connect you with trusted third-party email warmup services

How Does Email Warmup Work?

Email warmup is a gradual process designed to protect the health of your email account. It involves sending small volumes of emails from a new mailbox to designated "dummy" email addresses. Over time, the volume is steadily increased to ensure ISPs recognize your account as legitimate.

While we don't provide an in-house warmup tool yet, we work with reliable partners who can handle this for you. Using a warmup service is a standard practice in outbound sales and is crucial for avoiding spam filters.

How Can I Recognize Warmup Emails?

Warmup emails are generally automated and sent to dummy accounts. They may have generic or unusual subject lines and content. If you're working with a warmup service, these emails will not target your real prospects or contacts. They might appear slightly out of place in your sent folder but are harmless and part of the process.

How Long Does Email Warmup Take?

Email warmup is typically an ongoing process. Initially, the service will start by sending a small number of emails per day—around 10—and gradually increase that number to a safe sending volume, such as 75 emails per mailbox.

Even after your account is considered "warmed up," ongoing warmup activity is recommended to maintain a healthy sender reputation and ensure consistent deliverability.

Why Are There Strange Emails Sent From My Account?

This is completely normal during the email warmup process. The "strange" emails are interactions sent to dummy addresses to improve your account's sender reputation. Rest assured, these emails do not reach your actual prospects or clients, and your account has not been compromised.
